The BCSFA announced its final plans for additional farm tours this summer, which perhaps will encounter the large pod of killer whales that cruised by Campbell River just last week;

This year’s spring has been a busy one for the BC Salmon Farmers Association. There have been numerous tours running throughout May and June, including many public tours offered during the BC Shellfish & Seafood Festival (June 12-21). Due to the popularity of these tours, the BCSFA will be running public tours on Thursday, July 16 and Thursday, August 20.

With June designated as B.C. Seafood Month, the BCSFA has been running its popular tours throughout the spring, and will be offering only two tours this summer. Space is limited to 11 people for each tour and they are filling up fast. The cost is $50 (~€ 36), which includes lunch, and spots can be reserved through the Vancouver Island Visitor Centre at 1-855-400-2882 or via email info@vivccomoxvalley.com.

“This year our focus has been on getting more involved in the BC Shellfish & Seafood Festival, offering most of our public tours to festival participants,” said David Minato, Regulatory Affairs and Community Manager.  “We recognize that these tours are valuable in giving the public an inside look at the industry – through the sights they see, as well as the knowledge they gain by speaking with the farmers – so we’re hosting two tours for this summer for those who weren’t able to join us in June.”

Tours depart from Discovery Launch Water Taxis in Campbell River at 9 a.m. and last about four hours. Participants will enjoy a boat ride through the Seymour Narrows – taking in the beautiful scenery and possibly seeing marine wildlife such as seals, otters and whales.
