Excellence in international business award to Marine Harvest Scotland

Scottish salmon enjoys an outstanding reputation across the world and Marine Harvest have an impressive track record in growing top quality salmon. That’s helped make them the largest salmon farming company in Scotland, producing over 50,000 tonnes in 2011. Export sales in their last financial year increased by 101 % over the previous year.

They were the first company to export salmon to China in 2011 and from small beginnings they’ve building a strong market selling 1,800 tonnes in their first full year of export. Commenting on their success Alan Sutherland, Managing Director of Marine Harvest (Scotland) said:

We’re proud that the fish we grow in the seas and lochs of the Western Islands and Highlands of Scotland is shipped all over the world to be enjoyed by consumers who appreciate its outstanding quality. “We are delighted to receive this award as recognition for the hard work and commitment of our staff who have worked to achieve our international growth.”

Michael Urquhart, SCDI Highlands & Islands Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Gordon & MacPhail, which owns Benromach Distillery, added:
