Salmon spot price tumbles back after Easter

The spot price of salmon received a sharp correction last week after Easter had raised it in the weeks before.

According to Norwegian salmon statistics provider Akvafakta, the spot price for salmon fell by NOK 7.05 per kilo to NOK 59.26 (£5.10) per kilo in week 15.

The price is still NOK 7.27 higher than the same week last year, which was the Easter week then.

Higher export volume

On average, Norwegian fish farmers have received NOK 54.10 / kg for salmon in the spot market this year, compared to the equivalent of NOK 66.12 last year.

Norway exported 26,388 tonnes (round weight) of salmon in week 15, which is 53.8% more than in the same week last year.

So far this year, 393,000 tonnes have been exported, 23.4% more than at the same time a year ago.
