Is the salmon price fall bottoming out?

The fall in the market-setting spot price of Norwegian salmon slowed almost to a stop last week.

The spot price was NOK 44.04 per kilo last week (week 32), which was 0.2 of a krone (£0.017) lower than week 31. The price was NOK 5.56 during week 32 last year.

The average price is still above what it was last year after 32 weeks, but only by the minimum possible amount, namely NOK 0.01 (NOK 60.04 / kg this year vs NOK 60.03 kg last year).

The spot price has fallen in seven of the last eight weeks.

Exports down

Norway exported 22,013 tonnes of salmon in week 31, which is 9.6% less than in the same week in 2019.

So far, Norway has exported 682,000 tonnes of salmon in 2020, which is 0.8% less than in the same period last year.
