Dundee-based aquaculture technology company Ace Aquatec has hired former Benchmark sales and technical manager Ben Perry as head of sales.

Perry has worked across freshwater and marine finfish production, animal health and genetics for more than 15 years, most recently developing aquaculture biotech company Benchmark’s genetics business in North America.

Ace Aquatec said Perry’s experience of developing new aquaculture facilities and recruiting effective production and research teams aligns closely with its innovative approach.

The company’s chief sales and marketing officer, Tara McGregor-Woodhams, said: “We’re delighted to have someone of Ben’s calibre on board as we continue to scale our brand globally. With a strong background in aquaculture, he is the perfect fit for a welfare-focused and passionate brand like Ace Aquatec. As our industry enters a new era of technology transformation driven by artificial intelligence, Ben’s deep understanding of what drives customers’ success will be invaluable in this exciting time of disruption.”

Highest welfare practices

Perry said his new role offered a great opportunity to combine his clinical knowledge and practical experience with a purpose-driven, innovative mission to provide intelligent, ethical aquaculture products to customers.

“I’m excited to build on the excellent work already being done by Ace Aquatec to bring their market leading technology to clients across the globe, enabling our partners to achieve the highest welfare practices throughout the production cycle, while optimising growth and efficiency for future success.”

Ace Aquatec is known for its award-winning in-water stunner that renders fish unconscious before slaughter and has developed a next-generation acoustic predator deterrent that it says can keep seals away from a fish farm but doesn’t harm their hearing or disturb cetaceans.

In August last year the company launched its A-BIOMASS camera, which has been in development for some time and is said to provide farmers with accurate biomass of their fish as they grow, helping improved feeding and harvesting.

Ace Aquatec offices in Chile, Canada, and Norway and distribution partners in key markets such as Australia, Greece, and North America.
