PPS East puts its reusable plastic boxes to charitable use

Published Modified

PPS East is normally associated with supplying rented plastic crates, bins and boxes to the local seafood industry and Grimsby fish auction market, but when this charitable appeal arose, it was felt that this was an ideal opportunity to get involved and support the people of the region.

Due to the current economic downturn this has led to a huge increase in the number of struggling individuals and families turning to the Daily Bread Food Larder at Christian Action Resource Enterprise (CARE) in the Grimsby area. Last year alone, the charity handed out 468 emergency food parcels to people in North East Lincolnshire.

However, things are not improving and in January alone the charity has given away 129 food packages and staff expect the situation to get even worse. Championed by the Grimsby Telegraph, the ‘Ten Tonnes Of Tins’ campaign aims to collect 10 tonnes of tinned and packet foods for those in need. They want schools, businesses and members of the community to come together and donate food into PPS plastic collection boxes in order to achieve this goal and help others.

Kate Williamson of PPS East said: ”We are delighted to be associated with this simply brilliant charitable campaign, as we see this as a positive and practical initiative to collect and distribute food to local people who are finding it difficult to make ends meet and feed their families.

All staff and management at PPS East are supporting the initiative wholeheartedly.”

Sarah Taylor, the general manager of Care, which is run in conjunction with North East Lincolnshire Churches Together, said: ”Because of increased needs, we simply need more donations. We are expecting the demand to get a lot worse as time goes on and although we get a lot of donations from Churches Together, this organisation can no longer support us on its own due to the increasing need.

Because of this, we are appealing to everyone to spare what they can. We don’t want to have to close because of a lack of donations.

PPS East has supplied the campaign with 100 boxes for volunteers to collect donated foods and with an in increase in supply, Care will be able to help more and more vulnerable and needy people in the future.”
