
Salmonid exports top NOK 5 billion
Exports of salmon and trout from Norway totalled NOK 5.1 billion (£460m) in July – an increase of 28% compared to the same month last year, due to strong demand coupled with lower volumes.
Salmon exports rose by 25 per cent, to reach NOK 4.8 billion in July. The average market price for whole fresh salmon in the month of July was NOK 66.40 per kg, compared with NOK 43.96 per kg in July 2015, and Poland and France were the biggest buyers. So far this year, salmon exports have totaled NOK 33 billion, an increase of 27 per cent.
Meanwhile, trout exports in July totaled NOK 342 million – an increase of 69 per cent – with Belarus and Japan being the main importers. So far this year, exports of trout have been worth NOK 2.3 billion, which is an increase of 97 per cent compared with the same period of 2015.
Overall the country’s seafood exports were worth NOK 6.6 billion in July. This is an increase of 15 per cent compared with July 2015. So far this year, seafood exports have totaled NOK 49.2 billion – an increase of 24 per cent compared to the first seven months of 2015.
