The Michelin-starred Iris restaurant at the Salmon Eye visitor centre in Norway has been temporarily closed and 13 staff have been laid off. This is confirmed by Salmon Eye chairman Sondre Eide to newspaper Bergens Tidende.

Eide says the closure is not permanent.

“We are proud of Salmon Eye and Iris restaurant and therefore want to strategically further develop the concept to achieve new ambitious goals for the group,” Eide tells BT .

Thirteen employees have been given notice of temporary layoff.

Received a Michelin star

Restaurant Iris is located in Salmon Eye in the Hardangerfjord outside Rosendal. In May 2024, the restaurant received its first Michelin star.

Despite the food’s recognition, operations have been running at a loss in recent years. Sondre Eide tells the newspaper that the strategy process and development of a new concept take some time.

“We have therefore had to send notice of layoffs to employees pending the selection of a new concept,” says Eide.

The viewing centre at Salmon Eye will still remain open, he says.
