The fatality was confirmed by the general manager of Eidsvaag, Vidar Eidsvaag, to Hitra-Frøya on Wednesday evening.

"We don't know much about the accident itself. It is the police and the Accident Investigation Board Norway that will investigate the matter further," Eidsvaag told the newspaper.

"My thoughts go to the deceased's family and colleagues. You become close to each other in our profession. As a company, we are following up with our employees and also have contact with the family."

Minutes from dock

It was in Dusavik in Rogaland on Wednesday that the police received a report of an occupational accident from a vessel at sea, writes Adresseavisa. The vessel was reportedly minutes away from the dock when the accident occurred.

The man involved, who is believed to be in his thirties and from Trondheim, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eidsvaag operates a fleet of around 14 vessels, including seven cargo ships which transport fish feed from Skretting and Cargill factories to fish farms in Norway.

The Eidsvaag Marin is a 58.6-metre-long cargo ship built in 1995.
