SalMar, the world’s second largest Atlantic salmon farmer, harvested 60,300 gutted weight tonnes in Norway and Iceland in the first quarter of this year, it said in a trading update today. That figure is 41% higher than the 42,700 gwt harvested in Q1 2025, which was characterised by a low harvest, and also 14% higher than the 52,900 gwt harvested in Q1 2024.

The company harvested 35,900 gwt in central norway, 20,400 gwt in northern Norway, and 3,700 gwt in Iceland.

SalMar Ocean, which operates semi-offshore facilities in Norway, harvested 300 gwt.

The harvest volume doesn’t include SalMar’s share of the volume harvested in Q1 by Scotland’s second largest salmon producer Scottish Sea Farms (SSF), which is owned 50-50 by SalMar and Lerøy Seafood Group.

SSF’s harvest volume will be included in SalMar’s full Q1 2026 report which will be published on May 20.
