Workers affected as salmon smokehouse temporarily stops production

Published Modified

Loch Duart, which operates the premises, recently recalled eight batches of its oak roasted flaky salmon. The Food Standards Agency said listeria monocytogenes were detected in the product and may cause food poisoning.

However, according to the Hebrides News, the company said there was no evidence, whatsoever, of listeria presence in them and that the Loch Duart Artisan Smokehouse took the decision to recall the batches as a precaution.

Now it has shut down production for about a fortnight  to deep clean the premises, and sales director Andy Bing told the newspaper that every possible step will be taken to ensure that this never happens again.

Mr Bingsaid they had temporarily suspended despatches from the smokehouse in the meantime, "but we will be contacting customers very shortly to take care of orders and organise deliveries.  The smokehouse shop is also closed until mid-October.”
