He further explained that this figure “is more or less the patrimony formed by the industry in the last 25 years (…) while some companies lost 10% of their assets, some others lost up to 120%.”
According to the Chilean newspaper El Mercurio, José Gago also commented that the industry does not require subsidies or money from the State, “what we want is clear and effective regulations, monitoring and fines, because we see the light but we do not have that guaranteed,” he said, referring to the risk implied by any company non fulfilling sanitary or environmental regulations.
Regarding financing, José Gago calculates that the Chilean salmon industry currently needs about USD 750 million for working capital and around USD 150 million for machinery and equipment.
