The strongest market demand continues to come from the United States and Japan, but the countries that follow are surprising.

From a pie-chart perspective, the market distribution for Chilean salmon in terms of sales is as follows:

38% for the U.S.

33% for Japan

11% for Other Countries (meaning Russia, Thailand, China, South Korea, and “others”)

10% for the E.U.

8% for Latin America.

More interesting however is the breakdown of the last three groupings of countries. In actual sales numbers, the top ten countries are as follows:

U.S., US$ 465 million;

Japan, US$ 409 million;

Germany, US$ 64 million;

Brazil, US$ 54 million;

Russia, US$ 46 million;

France, US$ 29 million;

Thailand, US$ 19 million;

China, US$ 15 million;

South Korea, US$ 15 million;

Belgium, US$ 13 million.

Within the U.S., 92% of sales correspond to Atlantic salmon. Within Japan, 51% of sales correspond to trout and 40% of sales correspond to coho.
