Christian Pérez As the company reported to the Environmental Assessment Service (SEIA), Sealand plans to initially achieve an annual production of 1,080 tonnes of smolts from eyed eggs, later raising this figure to 3,000 tonnes of smolts per year. The project will involve the implementation of Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RASs) for each farming system. The main advantages of this set-up would be low pollution, due to the treatment that water receives, and allowing reuse of water in the same farm, thereby greatly reducing their water requirements. Moreover, these systems allow implementation of strong biosecurity barriers, providing a strict sanitary control. Sealand expects to start the project in mid-January 2016.
