Taxes and sanitary fallows under discussion
In a meeting held last week, representatives of Acotruch commented to the Chilean Minister of Economy that sanitary fallows should not be established of three months but implemented in consideration to the different farmed species and geographical areas.
For example, Acotruch said that lower temperatures in the Region of Aysén create a productive cycle which lasts at least one more month compared to the results obtained in the Region of Los Lagos. The proposal here was to reduce the sanitary fallow to two months for farming sites with Coho salmon.
Besides, regarding the taxes paid for aquaculture licenses, Acotruch proposed to allocate those funds raised by licenses in operation to those cities corresponding to the location where salmon production is being performed. In that way, the salmon producing companies would be directly contributing to an improved life quality in those communities where salmon is produced.
The secretary of State has received well both proposals and requested new analysis about these regulations.
Currently, Acotruch is composed by nine salmon producing companies which represent around 30% of the total salmon producing companies in operation in Chile. These companies contribute with close to 25% of the local production of salmonids.
