Marine Harvest Ireland achieved an operational EBIT of NOK 20 million (NOK 13 million), including the contribution from MH Sales, in the third quarter of 2011.

Prices remained favourable in the third quarter, as the organic salmon market is less exposed to price changes than the bulk salmon market.

Jørgen Christiansen, Communication Director for Marine Harvest ASA explains that organic salmon is a very small niche market, where, historically, it has been challenging to sell the products for a price that would give adequate margins. But this year prices have been satisfactory he says:

So far this year prices have remained very good,” Christiansen told FishfarmingXpert.

Sales of organic salmon were higher in 2011 than in 2010, the company states.

Cost wise, feed and lice mitigation costs have increased compared to last year. Net mortality cost in the third quarter amounted to NOK 2 million.
