The site, to be based in Gometra in Mull, will produce 2000 tonnes of fish and provide up to four full-time local jobs.
Following a local hearing where supporters had a chance to voice their views on the important economic impact of the development, the nine councillors on the Planning, Protective Services and Licensing Committee voted unanimously in its favour.
Stewart McLelland, Chief Executive of The Scottish Salmon Company, said: “We are delighted to be able to progress with our development plans in Mull. This latest planning application, which follows on from our success for a further new site at Loch Torridon in the Highlands, marks an important step forward in the company’s long-term strategy to increase our output to 40,000 tonnes.
“The overwhelming support for this application from local people and decision makers marks a massive vote of confidence in our work and that of the aquaculture industry.
“The Scottish salmon and wider aquaculture industries are vitally important to the Scottish economy. There is a real opportunity to capitalise on the great reputation Scottish salmon has globally and we are committed building a business that can respond to that demand.”
