According to the Sanitary Report 2012 produced by the National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca), there were 1,041 diagnostics positive to SRS in the last year. 621 of those diagnostics were reported in Atlantic salmon, 269 cases in Rainbow trout, 145 in Coho salmon, 3 in King salmon and 3 of them did not have any information about the specie.

IPNv was the second most frequently diagnosed disease in salmonids with 334 cases. 291 of them were reported in Atlantic salmon, 25 in Rainbow trout and 18 in Coho salmon.

The Sanitary Report also describes a moderate increase in the sea lice abundance in 2012 compared to the previous year, especially in the 11th Region (Aysén). In the Region of Los Lagos, the average abundance has increased from 2.31 adult sea lice per fish in 2011 to 2.45 in 2012. Meanwhile, in the Region of Aysén, the average abundance has increased from 2.43 to 3.94.

Sernapesca explains that this situation is a consequence of the larger biomass of fish being farmed in 2012, which was 38.32 percent higher than in 2011. Likewise, most of this increase (61.79%) was observed in the region of Aysén.
