SRS is the most frequent disease in Chilean sea farms
According to the Sanitary Report for the first nine months of 2012 produced by the National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca), there were 664 diagnostics positive to SRS as of September this year. 396 of those diagnostics were reported in Atlantic salmon, 159 cases in Rainbow trout, 154 in Coho salmon, 2 in King salmon and 3 of them did not have any information about the specie.
IPNv was the second most frequently diagnosed disease in salmonids with 198 cases. 163 of them were reported in Atlantic salmon, 20 in Rainbow trout and 15 in Coho salmon.
The Sanitary Report also describes a moderate increase in the sea lice abundance in the first nine months of 2012 compared to the same period of 2011, especially in the 11th Region (Aysén). Sernapesca explains that this situation is explained by the larger biomass of fish in the first nine months of this year which is 45.55 percent higher than in the same months of 2011. Likewise, most of this increase (75.46%) was observed in the region of Aysén.
