Skretting's plant in Chile. The country has the second largest salmon farming industry in the world and it is able to use a different set of raw materials in its feed compared to its Europe counterparts.

Skretting launches new fish feed in Chile

Christian Pérez "More production with less feed" would be the synthesis of the results obtained with Optiline Premium, fattening fish feed that Skretting Chile is presenting to the local salmon producers during the second quarter of 2013. According to the company, this is the first fish feed -in the Chilean salmon industry, containing metabolic activators that stimulate the fish metabolism and utilization of energy. Metabolic activators are natural substances present in specific raw materials, which properly combined have a positive impact of the fish physiology, increasing growth due to a better use of energy, reducing visceral fat and increasing the fat content of the fillet. In this manner, the producer obtains better yields in the processing plant and also larger and tastier fillets with higher levels of Omega 3. This new fish feed is available for Atlantic salmon and the benefits in fish have been documented by the Aquaculture Research Center, Skretting ARC, in multiple tests with that species, in small and large scale, and in parallel tests, consistently delivering promising results. Some of the most relevant results* are: a) growth potential of 106 percent, equivalent to 6 percent more than the normal expected growth; b) a 1 percent increase in the processing plant performance; c) an increase between 3-6 percent in the content of Omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA in the salmon fillet; and d) a 0.10 points reduction in the feed conversion rate. * These figures might vary depending on the energy level included in the fish feed.
