This feed plant closed down in 2008, as a consequence of the negative impacts caused by ISA virus in the local production of Atlantic salmon. Since then, the company had centered its operation in two plants, located in Osorno and Puerto Montt.

According to Skretting, this reopening process involves rehiring around 50 workers. The general manager of the company, Gabriel García, explained that this reopening is a solid indication of the recovery process that the Chilean salmon industry is experiencing. “This is also a demonstration of our commitment with the industry and the community,” he said.

The Pargua feed plant has a peculiar characteristic that makes it unique in its kind in Chile: its own port. This seaport allows the company to ship feed from the plant directly to each farming site.
