Show of strength

Last year was the first time the company had been involved in the event, which is regarded as the one of the world’s most spectacular Highland games, and this new deal will see the salmon producer’s sponsorship continue until 2018.

The company is a large employer in the area and has a history of supporting the communities where it operates.

Welcoming over 23,000 people each year, Cowal Highland Gathering includes pipe band competitions and heavy athletics. It is also home to the World Highland Dancing Championships.

Craig Anderson, managing director of the Scottish Salmon Company, said: “Scotland’s heritage is the foundation of our business and we are proud to extend our sponsorship of this great celebration of Scottish culture and traditions for another four years. As the leading producer of farmed salmon with operations only in Scotland, we are looking forward to working with Cowal Highland Gathering to ensure the continued success of this event.”

Ronnie Cairns, chair of Cowal Highland Gathering, added: “We’re absolutely delighted that The Scottish Salmon Company wants to play a key role in the future of the Gathering.

“Over the last couple of years we have worked very hard to broaden the event’s appeal, and the feedback from spectators and competitors alike after last year’s Gathering was that it was right up there among Scotland’s top family days out.

“The Scottish Salmon Company has been extremely supportive of the direction in which we’re going, and worked very closely with us last year both in the run up to the event and during the Gathering weekend itself to ensure that everyone had the best possible experience.

“The fact that The Scottish Salmon Company now wants to commit to another four years of financial and other support is a tremendous vote of confidence not only in what we’ve already achieved but also in the Gathering’s future potential. We’re excited about what the next few years might bring.”

Work is already well underway to ensure that this year’s event – which runs from August 27-29 in Dunoon – builds on the success of previous years.
