Sernapesca reopens roe imports from Iceland

Published Modified

Christian Pérez Last week, the National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Sernapesca, published an Exempt Resolution reopening the importation of Atlantic salmon eggs from Iceland, after the favorable results that country obtained in the risk analysis. Sernapesca imposed a temporally suspension over salmon roe imports past August 17th due to the implementation of an update on the risk analysis for two diseases recently included in the Chilean list of high risk diseases (non-pathogenic ISA virus and Pancreas Disease). Alicia Gallardo, deputy director of the Sernapesca Aquaculture Department, commented that the Icelandic sanitary authority Iceland Food and Veterinary Authority (MAST) promptly sent the information required. "According to the results of the risk analysis and considering that no comments were received during the public consultation period, reopening the roe imports was the appropriate thing to do."
