Seafish success at Dorset Seafood Festival

Published Modified

This is the third year that Seafish has sponsored the multi-award winning festival, which took place on 13th and 14th July in Weymouth, and attracts around 50,000 visitors across the weekend. Seafish presented the popular film The Business of Fishing and the eagerly awaited sequel, The Business of Processing, which was enthusiastically received as well as several other educational films about the seafood industry. As with previous years, Seafish engaged top chefs and seafood experts to showcase delicious seafood recipes and give the public a chance to sample products such as crab and whelks that many of the visitors had never have tried before. The crab picking, oyster shucking, and fish filleting demonstrations filled the tent to capacity as the visitors took the unique opportunity to learn new skills and watch the experts at work. As well as showing the public the many ways to enjoy seafood and how easy it is to prepare, these demonstrations showcased the produce that is available on their doorstep every day. To encourage the public to keep up their interest and to eat more seafood after the festival, thousands of Fish is the Dish recipes were given away, as well as activity books to encourage children to develop an interest in seafood. Mick Bacon, Responsible Fishing Scheme Manager, who gave a presentation on the day, said: "It's always great to interact with the British public and show them the wide variety of fish that we have in our seas and to encourage them to eat more seafood."
