Scottish Sea Farms £37m investment plan in next two years
The owners of Scottish Sea Farms, SalMar and Leroy, are committed to invest £37m in Scotland with £12m in freshwater operations and a further £25m in new Farming sites over the next two years. These investments will bring much needed jobs to rural communities in Dumfries, Highlands and Orkney.
Leif Inge Nordhammer Chairman of Scottish Sea Farms said: “The owners and Board of Scottish Sea Farms are committed to growing our production in a sustainable way to satisfy the demands for Scottish Salmon in markets around the world and to support the communities where we operate.”
Commenting on the announcement, Scotland's Environment Minister Paul Wheelhouse said: "The announcement of this investment in infrastructure and expansion over the next two years is great news for the future of the aquaculture industry in Scotland and for our economy. Exports of Scottish salmon continue to grow and demand for product at home and abroad currently outstrips supply which is a unique position to be in.
"We remain committed to sustainable growth with due regard to the environment and will continue to work with SSPO, Scottish Sea Farms and other producers to ensure the continued success of the industry."
