Scottish salmon to the fore in Brussels
Scotland returns once again to Brussels for the 20th consecutive year at Seafood Expo Global 2015, aiming to showcase some of the world's most sought-after premium fish and seafood on the industry's biggest global stage.
Sixteen companies, including three shortlisted in the Prix d'Elite, will set up shop on the Scotland Pavilion to showcase the finest Scottish fish and seafood to international audiences seeking the very best produce.
The menu for this year's show has been designed around 'The Year of Food and Drink Scotland 2015', celebrating Scotland's outstanding natural larder and produce. Chefs on the stand will be cooking up a variety of dishes, will showcase all of Scotland's seafood categories, complemented by local, in-season Scottish ingredients.
Scotland's top fish and seafood producers will be supported at the show by industry organisations Seafood Scotland, the Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation (SSPO) and Scottish Quality Salmon.
Richard Lochhead, Scotland's Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs, Food and the Environment, will also be attending the show on Tuesday to show his support for Scottish companies as they seek to boost their international trade.
He said: "Scotland is blessed with an outstanding natural larder, and the Seafood Expo Global is the ideal platform to showcase to international buyers the premium fish and seafood produced in our pristine waters. I am extremely pleased to see so many Scottish producers and processors attending the event this year as Scotland celebrates our Year of Food and Drink."
Scott Landsburgh, Chief Executive of the Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation, said Seafood Expo Global is a key event for Scottish salmon producers to network with seafood buyers from around the world in order to bring new business opportunities back to Scotland.
"Last year proved to be another successful year of export growth for Scottish salmon producers despite ongoing challenges to extend current production levels. Scottish salmon was also voted 'best farmed salmon in the world' for the second consecutive time last year, in a poll of international seafood buyers. This is more great news for rural communities where we farm, and the wider Scottish economy, which continues to benefit from jobs, significant investment and ongoing community support provided by our industry," he said.
