Scottish salmon recalled after listeria fear

Published Modified

Scottish smoked salmon sold by the Co-operative was at the centre of a festive food scare last week amid fears it was contaminated with listeria.

The Co-Operative recalled all 160g packs with use-by dates of December 21 and 24 after routine tests showed high levels of the bacteria in a small batch that was checked.

The recall was revealed by the Food Standards Agency, which issued a food alert for the popular product.

It is the second time in a month that smoked salmon has been withdrawn from sale because of listeria contamination.
