Scots unphased by sanction extension

Putin’s move follows the EU’s decision to extend sanctions against Moscow, due to its involvement in the Ukraine crisis, until the end of January.

Although the Russian sanctions were initially greeted with dismay by many seafood producers in both Norway and Scotland, it seems that the extension is generating less concern.

Indeed, Scott Landsburgh, Chief Executive of the Scottish Salmon Prodicers’ Organisation (SSPO) told Fish Farming Expert: “Russia was not a significant market for Scottish salmon at the time when sanctions were put in place by the Russian Government. Since then, I have not been informed of any direct impact to our overall export figures.”

The Norwegian Seafood Council, which has yet to issue a response to this latest news from the Kremlin, may well be less impressed.
