
Salmonid harvests top 750k tonnes
Chilean salmonid harvests totalled 750,584 tonnes in the first eleven months of this year, representing an 8.7 per cent increase compared to the same period of 2013 (690,667 tonnes) according to preliminary figures submitted by the Chilean Under-Secretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca).
A comparison of results itemized by species shows a 23.1 per cent increase in the Atlantic salmon harvests from 447,856 tonnes to 551,862 tonnes; a 10.3 per cent decrease in rainbow trout harvests, to 118,886 tonnes and a 27.0 per cent decrease in coho salmon harvests to 79,836 tonnes.
