Salmones Friosur considering a merge

For a company such as Salmones Friosur that is based entirely in the Aysén Region, the earthquake of April 2007 basically changed the outlook for the years to come. As a result of the tragedy, Salmones Friosur lost its estuary based smolt production site, which at the time of the earthquake contained an estimated 2 million smolts. Thus, it is not surprising that the company would be offering soon-to-be-empty grow-out sites to companies in need of growing space. According to La Tercera, Empresas AquaChile, a company that has been planning to be listed on the stock market later this year, has postponed its intentions due to an “important operation” it is currently dealing with. Although spokesmen from neither company confirmed plans of a merge, nor have they denied that many business meetings have recently taken place. Salmones Friosur is controlled by José Luis Del Río and the company generated sales of US$ 54 million last year. Empresas AquaChile is owned and operated by the families Puchi, Fischer, and Aguilera, and last year generated sales of US$ 501 million.
