SalmonChile’s Plans and Projections
SalmonChile recently hosted a seminar titled, “Perspectives and Challenges of Salmon Farming: a Motor of Regional Development” in conjunction with the presentation of their annual economic report. The main highlight of the seminar according to Aqua.cl was the Association’s projection of earnings for 2007. In 2006 the industry exported a total of 387 thousand net tons, and this year “we are planning on volume growth rates this year around 6%, rates that are perfectly reachable," states Rodrigo Infante, SalmonChile’s general manager. In terms of sales, last year total sales generated from exports reached US$ 2.2 billion, and for 2007 the projection is US$ 2.4 billion. Another highlight was SalmonChile’s announcement of opening a branch office in Region IX, coined the new incubator of aquaculture development (see article, “Chile’s new crib of aquaculture development” 26.06.07). The new office will be in the town of Villarica, and the Association is in the process of electing their office representative. This will extend SalmonChile’s involvement to four of the country’s regions - Santiago (Capital Region), Villarica (Region IX), Puerto Montt (Region X), and Puerto Aysén (Region XI).
