SalmonChile welcomes end of conflict in Aysén
This conflict meant a production standstill of over one month in two salmon processing plants located in the Region of Aysén. These facilities belong to Acuinova and Salmones Frío Sur and together provide jobs to around 1,500 workers.
María Eugenia Wagner said that it is important to reach an agreement between Authorities and demonstrators considering how relevant is that region for the local salmon industry. Aysén holds 70 percent of the Chilean production of Atlantic salmon these days.
According to the journal Diario de Aysén, the chairman of the Association of the Chilean Salmon Industry (SalmonChile) explained that all the operations have returned to normality for the sector in that region.
Among other consequences that the Chilean salmon industry has faced due to the conflict in Aysén, there was a lack of fish during the first days; several companies had to process salmon away of that region, in the Chiloé Island; and the sea lice abundances have increased, due to the inability to perform coordinated delousing treatments in some southern areas.
