SalmonChile defends its stance on handling ISA
César Barros, president of SalmonChile has built a reputation on staunchly and somewhat haughtily standing up for the Association he represents. In the annual "salmon dinner", a gala event hosted each year by SalmonChile and various private sponsors to celebrate the success of the SalmonChile Association, Barros's opening speech made the bold comparison of the strength and unity of Chile's salmon industry to that of the Roman Empire. Emotionally charged up, he officially declared war against ISA, and his motivational speech was akin to a general addressing his troops. He shouted that honed discipline in complying with and defending orders, and hanging the traitors so to speak, is what it will take to win the war. The traitors in the ISA war would be those SalmonChile members that bend the rules regarding sanitary norms, and/or do not call in the authorities if their neighbouring salmon producer or service provider is not following orders. Barros also claimed that the salmon industry could have acted more effectively from the start of the ISA situation if the governing agencies would have given the industry more free reign in fixing their problem. But due to so much bureaucratic red tape involved in relocating farming licenses and importing new medications, the salmon industry is faced with the situation it is in now. Barros however is more than confident that his troops will overcome, and win the "war".
