Salmon production to reach 2.66 million tonnes
According to projections produced by ABG Sundal Collier and Kontali, and recently disclosed by several Chilean salmon producing companies, the global supply of farmed Atlantic salmon is expected to increase 4 per cent this year to total around 2.33 million tonnes.
The same studies expect increases of 5 per cent in 2016 and 4 per cent in 2017, to reach 2.54 million tonnes by 2017.
Meanwhile, analyses from Carnegie Research predict global growth rates of 4 per cent, 2 per cent, 4 per cent, 2 per cent, 4 per cent and 2 per cent for the years 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020, respectively, which would mean the figure will be about 2.66 million tonnes by 2020.
ABG Sundal Collier and Kontali expect the Norwegian supply of farmed Atlantic salmon to increase about 6 per cent this year, to around 1.26 million tonnes, while the Chilean industry is forecast to produce around 584,000 tonnes - a 2 per cent decrease compared to the total recorded in 2014.
