
Salmon harvests increased 49% in January
According to figures submitted by the Chilean Fisheries Under-Secretariat (Subpesca), a comparison of results itemized by specie shows a 24.2% increase in the Atlantic salmon harvests from 8 594 tonnes to 10 673 tonnes; a 2% drop in the Rainbow trout harvests down to 11 965 tonnes; and a 117.8% increase in the Coho salmon harvests up to 26 147 tonnes.
Regarding to local roe stocks, they totalized 66.6 million units in January 2011: 90.9% of Atlantic salmon eggs and 9.1% of Rainbow trout eggs. Meanwhile, roe imports totalized 21.5 million in January, separated in 52% of Atlantic salmon eggs and 48% of Rainbow trout eggs.
