Russian fishery agency tightens customs policy on imports
"I would warn our eastern and western neighbours and colleagues that we will use a process of customs and excise policies to set barriers, including raising import duties on products not meeting quality standards," Andrei Krainy told journalists at a fishery meeting.
According to the news source RIA Novosti, Krainy said The Federal Fishery Agency, which was now reporting directly to the government, would also be responsible for customs and tariff policies - the former role of the Economic Development Ministry.
He continued: "We will not allow out people to eat God knows what while we have our own natural wealth." He added that Russian produce was no worse than foreign fish, the news source wrote.
He also said a number of regulatory documents would be adopted by July 1 in line with the federal fishery law, the RIA Novosti reported.
