Relocation process would move one third of all salmon licenses

Christian Pérez The undersecretary Pablo Galilea believes that at least 400 salmon farming licenses will take part of this relocation process. This situation implies that one third of the existing licenses would be moved. However, these relocations "should not be radical, and would be made within the same area or region where those sites are already located," Mr Galilea said. That means that no salmon license will be moved from one region to another. These relocations would be a key element to improve the sanitary issues caused by overcrowding in the past year. The main problem that has mushroomed within the industry as a result of this overcrowding is the sea lice Caligus which has represented an increase in production costs of up to 30 percent according to several salmon producing companies. According to the financial journal Diario Financiero, this relocation process should be completed in early 2015.
