Producer sponsors sailing club
The Stromness Sailing Club will put the money towards a new RIB, to provide safety cover and be used in powerboat training, and Scottish Sea Farms is also sponsor of the new Junior Champion Trophy.
Kenny Holland, Commodore, Stromness Sailing Club, said: “Training and bringing new people, especially young people, into the exciting sport of sailing is very important to the vitality of the Club. We have to ensure that we provide good safety cover for those on the water, whether training or racing. The purchase of a new RIB and engine is the fourth and final phase of this particular project.
“We are absolutely delighted to have this tremendous level of support from Scottish Sea Farms which, along with the other financial support committed, has enabled us to go ahead with buying the RIB. When the sailing season gets under way in 2015, local people will be able to see the Scottish Sea Farms logo on the RS Feva mainsails as young improvers train in the Stromness harbour area and juniors members compete for the Junior Champion trophy, with the new RIB patrolling in support.”
Richard Darbyshire, Orkney Regional Manager, Scottish Sea Farms, said: “With so much of our activity being water-based it seems entirely appropriate that we sponsor the Stromness Sailing Club. Safety and knowledge on the water is invaluable when living in Orkney and we look forward to hearing more about the junior members as they progress with their training and sailing experience.”
