Norwegians land Tasmanian contract
The Kristiansund-based firm’s new design will be the world's first vessel that has been custom-built for killing and bleeding salmon at the cage edge.
The vessel has automated lines for killing and bleeding the salmon, which are then passed directly to precooled RSW tanks. The vessel can transport over 200 tonnes of fish, refrigerated and prepared for further processing. All fish handling happens below deck, providing less risk of infection, sea lice and disease spread, improved fish welfare, lower fuel consumption and lower investment costs.
"We think that onsite harvesting will be important for the future of aquaculture logistics," says CEO John de Bruyn.
Svein Knudtzon Waagbø, CEO of Møre Maritime, is proud to have won this important contract.
"This type of vessel will be an important supplement to large, complex and costly wellboats," he says.
Møre Maritime will deliver a complete design and drafting package but the vessel will be built in Tasmania.
