Buyers from Harrods spent two days in the Highlands, meeting with firms who hope to see their food on the shelves of the Knightsbridge store.

The Harrods contingent also visited some of the companies to see their production sites, including Alvie Estate, near Kincraig, the Aberdeen Press and Journal reported.

19 food companies met with the buyers at Highlands and Islands Enterprise’s offices in Inverness.

Among those attending the event were Moray Seafoods, and Loch Fyne Oysters.

Virginia Sumsion, marketing manger of Loch Fyne Oysters, was hoping to win over Harrods with a new product, smoked salmon marinated in 21-year-old Glengoyne whisky. She told the newspaper:“Harrods is obviously a high-profile business in the centre of London. It’s a good place for us to promote our brand because, if people see our products on the shelves there, they will look out for it elsewhere and maybe come and visit us.”

James Wierzrelewski, executive chef at Harrods, said: “We know that Scotland is home to some of the finest produce in the world and we already sell a breadth of luxury Scottish products in the Harrods Food Halls."
