New disease threatens trout in Chile
Christian Pérez There are still more uncertainties than facts regarding this new disease. However, something is clear: it is killing lots of trout in the country. The Chilean Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Sernapesca, started receiving reports about clinical signology of this disease in September 2012, on trout located in the Los Lagos region. The symptoms observed are bilateral exophthalmos, edema, protrusion of the anus, hydropericardium, ascites and liver injuries. This disease mainly affects robust fish in good condition (over 1000 grams). Results show that this disease is not one of those listed by the OIE and itso far has been reported in the areas of Hornopirén, Reloncavi Estuary and Chiloe Island, Sernapesca informed.
