USA: The National Aquaculture Association (NAA) has moved its headquarters from James Town, W.Va., to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

According to an article in the online edition of Pine Bluff Commercial, "the NAA plans on benefiting from the expertise and resources offered by UAPB's Aquaculture/Fisheries Center of Excellence, which has an international reputation".

In the article, NAA Executive Director Betsy Hart said "the organization was attracted to UAPB because of the pre-eminent reputation of the aquaculture and fisheries center. The expertise of Dr. Carole Engle, director of UAPB's aquaculture and the fisheries program, and Dr. Andy Goodwin, an experienced researcher at the center, were also major factors in the decision to move to Pine Bluff".

The nonprofit trade association works with the various elements of the aquaculture industry to offer a voice for its members, working with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Commerce, the Food and Drug Administration as well as governmental regulators in the interests of the industry.

The association plans to offer internships to students and provide opportunities for students to help with national conferences, Hart said, and to create a mentoring program that would unite students to those with field experience.
