Massive increase in vaccine sales

"There's a definite increase. But one must remember that large numbers will be vaccinated during the summer. The increase so far this year indicates that some breeders have started vaccination somewhat earlier than they did last year," says Bjarte Lygren of MSD Animal Health.

MSD perceives that some companies are now 2-3 weeks earlier in their vaccination schedules compared to 2013. Farmastat vaccine statistics for May show that 13,725,000 multicomponent vaccines for salmon with IPN component were sold, compared to 6.79 million in the same month last year. This corresponds with vaccine protection against furunculosis, vibriosis, coldwater vibriosis, winter and IPN, which totalled 67,925,000 compared to 57,560,000 for the same period in 2013.
