Marine Harvest Chile will triple its production by 2012
The general manager of this company, Álvaro Jiménez, said that in the pursuit of that goal the freshwater infrastructure will be vital as well as all the health and environmental measures. In fact, he stated that "only two lakes meet the environmental requirements in Chile, so there has to be a high investment in fish farms on land, decision also held by SalmonChile".
Jiménez added that in the case of sites at the sea, regulations to improve sanitary conditions and reduce the density in the production, "implies that there must be a greater number of farming sites if we want to achieve the same biomass. That is why the company has a high participation in the 58 neighborhoods (15 in the 10th Region and 12 in the 11th region, with 14% of total)."
Jimenez also detailed, in a report to investors, that the domestic firms will have difficulties obtaining capital during 2011, “because they have a weak financial situation today and the banks have restricted all lending. Then, there is a high probability of new investors entering the sector."
