Spillfree Analytics AS, which support fish farmers with analysing and improving feeding processes, is set to merge with software company Piscada Aqua, which provides process control and analysis software for the aquaculture industry. Both companies are based in Trondheim, Norway, and both are majority-owned by seafood investor Bluefront Equity.

“These two companies sport complementary product portfolios that focus on improving feeding processes, professionalising feeding, and enabling increased capacity for fish farmers. This provides an excellent foundation for delivering complete and even more integrated solutions for feeding operations,” said Piscada Aqua managing director Steinar Fossen in a press release.

Fossen will lead the merged company, which will operate under the Piscada Aqua name.

Operational support

Piscada Aqua has developed a software platform that manages, analyses, optimises and controls various aquaculture production processes. The software provides a complete operating picture and enables control of feeding intensity, winch adjustments, camera positioning and integration with new, innovative solutions. In total, this enables automation, planning and execution of operations in both ocean net pens and land-based fish farming facilities.

Spillfree has developed a platform to support feeding operations through its Feedhub product. It has also focused on developing AI-based software that utilises video and data analysis to provide decision support for optimisation of biological conditions and feeding processes in aquaculture production.

“Our intention is that Spillfree’s software and AI will be offered as part of Piscada Aqua’s portfolio going forward, while Piscada Aqua will continue to act as a neutral partner – independent of suppliers. We believe that fish farmers will recognise the value of this,” said Fossen.

Co-location

The two companies will co-locate at Piscada’s offices going forward. The merged business has 16 employees. Its joint technical expertise is said to have been significantly strengthened through the merger.

Bluefront Equity’s funds will own approximately 85% of the merged business.

The merger between Piscada Aqua and Spillfree will formally be completed during the first quarter of 2026.
