Salmon price fell sharply

The spot price of Norwegian salmon tumbled by NOK 7.59 (£0.64) per kilo to NOK 61.49 per kilo last week (week 21), according to salmon industry statistics provider Akvafakta.

The drop meant the spot price was lower than the corresponding week last year (by NOK 3.93) for the first time in several months.

The average price so far this year is NOK 57.40 / kg against 62.38 at the same time last year.

Norway exported 22,157 tonnes (round weight) of salmon in week 20, which is 8.7% less than the same week last year. So far this year, Norway has exported 506,000 tonnes of salmon, which is 17.7% more than last year.

The trend for the last four weeks (weeks 17-20) is 2.6% down.
