TerreAzur Groupe Pomona doubles LRSS sales

One of France’s largest fresh seafood distributors, TerreAzur Groupe Pomona, doubled its sales of Label Rouge Scottish salmon (LRSS) last year.

Alexandre Fauchille, who has bought fresh fish for the Boulogne-sur-Mer-based company for 9 years, was part of a delegation of 14 key Label Rouge Scottish Salmon (LRSS) buyers who visited Edinburgh this week to watch Les Bleus take on Scotland at Murrayfield.

Despite the result, which ended the Gallic challenge for this year’s 6 Nation’s title, Alexandre explained to Fish Farming expert that he is keen to increase his business with Scottish Label Rouge producers, as he feels that French consumers are placing increasing value on quality and provenance.

“Our Label Rouge Scottish salmon sales have regularly increased for some years, but in 2015 we doubled our volumes,” he says.

Part of the reason for the increase, according to Alexandre, has been the input of Pierre Maurage of the Label Rouge Scottish Salmon Promotion Board.

“Pierre supported us with the development of posters, price pins and a range of recipes,” he reflects, “and did a really good job – it’s very important to teach people about the quality and provenance of the product and give them the full story: our customers need the explanation and the history.”

“However,” Alexandre continues, “the most important thing is the taste of the fish and our blind tasting – against other salmon, including superior and organic – and LR comes top every time.”
