Fiizk wins cod fry plant ultrafilter contract
Aquaculture supplier Fiizk has won an order to deliver water ultrafiltration solutions for Norwegian cod fry producer Havlandet Norcod, a joint venture between cod farmer Norcod and fry producer Havlandet Marin Yngel.
Fiizk, best known for its semi-closed containment systems increasingly used in salmon farming, will deliver two skid-based membrane filtration solutions with a total membrane area of 7,680 m² with a pore size 0.02 microns (µm). A micron is one millionth of a millimetre. By comparison, a human hair is about 90 microns in diameter.
The plant will deliver over 200 m³ per hour of ultrafiltered seawater for fry production. Fiizk said that with this filtration size the system can guarantee the intake water is free of pathogens such as viruses, bacteria and algae.
First major order
The ultrafiltration units are fully automated, controlled and monitored locally and / or via remote access. The delivery will be completed in the summer of 2022, with water production starting in early autumn. This is the first major order for Fiizk’s filtration branch, Fiizk Aqua, following its acquisition of AkvaFresh AS in the autumn of 2021.
Havlandet has achieved stable fry production through improved production protocols and genetics, said Fiizk in a press release. Its cod have a higher appetite, good feed conversion rates, high fillet quality and fast growth.
With a strong focus on biosecurity, Havlandet has had minimal challenges with infection or disease in the last 10 years and no challenge with sexual maturation.
