
One dead after explosion at Norwegian salmon farm
One person has died after an explosion that occurred at a salmon farm in Stranda municipality, Norway, this morning.
The tragedy happened at a site operated by Hofseth Aquaculture, the company said in a press release.
“We are issuing this press release to inform about the incident, and to share the limited information we currently have,” the company said.
“At present, we have limited information about the accident and the sequence of events. The accident resulted in the loss of one of our talented colleagues. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go to the deceased’s family and our colleagues.”
Cause unknown
Hofseth said it is working closely with the emergency services that are on the scene, and staff are doing what they can to help deal with the situation.
Four people were present when the incident occurred at the scene of the accident.
“What caused the accident is currently unknown, but we have received a report of an explosion at the plant, and that this has had fatal consequences. The police investigation is under way to uncover the causes of the incident,” said Hofseth.
“The next of kin and our employees have our highest priority. We are actively working to handle the situation in the best possible way and offer all necessary support and assistance to relatives and our employees.”
Police operations manager Jens Dahl confirmed to state broadcaster NRK that forensics personnel were on their way to the scene to carry out investigations.
