Norwegian cage camera and data supplier OptoScale is opening its own local office in Chile and appointing experienced industry specialist Cesar Lopez as sales manager.

OptoScale said the expansion follows several years of strong development in the region and aims to give farmers closer support and more precise, real-time insight into their fish.

The company added that Chile has become one of its most important markets, with demanding production environments and a growing need for trustworthy, continuous data.

“Chile is an extremely important market for us,” said OptoScale chief executive Sven Kolstø. “We already work with strong customers and have talented people on the ground. Establishing an official office allows us to respond faster and support farmers more closely.”

OptoScale says its technology monitors growth, lice, feeding, behaviour and welfare around the clock, giving farmers consistent, high-quality insight throughout the production cycle.

“OptoScale does not just provide underwater cameras,” said Lopez. “We deliver accurate data that helps farmers make informed decisions – every single day. With clear information on growth, behaviour and welfare, farmers can move from guessing to knowing.”

Chile continues to face significant biological pressures, making reliable data even more valuable.

“We still deal with sea lice, SRS (piscirickettsiosis) and welfare-related issues,” Lopez noted. “We also see challenges like melanosis, cataracts and oxidative stress. And while the industry has many tools, they do not always connect.”

Solutions built with farmers

He highlighted OptoScale’s approach of co-developing solutions directly with customers.

“What I appreciate about OptoScale is that solutions are built together with farmers. We listen, test in the field and adapt. This makes the data more usable and the impact clearer.”

Kolstø said Lopez brings the exact experience and attitude needed for OptoScale’s next phase in Chile. “Cesar knows the Chilean industry extremely well. He understands the real challenges farmers face – and he shares our belief in precision, openness and working closely with customers. His mix of experience and customer focus makes him the ideal person for this next phase.”
